Frequently asked questions
How long do you keep my videos?
Videos are deleted automatically 7 days after upload by default — you can shorten that delay or delete a video by hand at any time. Reports, which only contain masked previews and never the detected values themselves, remain accessible afterwards.
What video formats are supported?
ScreenSafe accepts MP4, MOV and WebM files up to 3 GB. Export your video in one of these formats before uploading if needed.
What's included in the free plan?
The free plan analyzes up to 10 minutes of video per month, with videos up to 10 minutes long each, no credit card required. Upgrade to the Creator plan or lifetime access for longer videos and more minutes.
How does ScreenSafe detect sensitive data?
ScreenSafe reads the text visible on screen — in emails, terminals, chat windows, forms — and matches it against patterns for IBANs, card numbers, emails, phone numbers, passwords and API keys. You review every finding before anything is blurred.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. The Creator subscription has no commitment and can be canceled in one click from your billing settings; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Where is my data hosted?
Storage and processing happen entirely in the European Union. We never store the detected secret in clear text — only a masked preview and a fingerprint, which also serves as proof of review.
What do I get with lifetime access?
A single payment for unlimited videos and minutes, forever, including streams and long courses, plus every future improvement — no subscription, no renewal.
Can ScreenSafe miss something?
On-screen text detection is very reliable but not infallible — always review the report before publishing. Audio transcription and contextual analysis, which further reduce false negatives and false positives, are coming soon.
Is ScreenSafe GDPR-compliant?
Yes. ScreenSafe stores and processes all data exclusively in the European Union. Videos are deleted automatically after 7 days by default, we never keep detected values in clear text, and the JSON report can serve as documented proof of your pre-publication review — useful for demonstrating due diligence under GDPR's data-minimisation and accountability principles.
Does ScreenSafe work on live stream recordings?
Yes. Once you export or download your stream recording, you can upload it to ScreenSafe just like any video. ScreenSafe will scan every second of the replay for IBANs, email addresses, card numbers, passwords or API keys that appeared on screen during the live, and let you blur or pixelate them before you re-publish.
Can ScreenSafe detect sensitive data in a terminal or code editor?
Yes. ScreenSafe reads all text visible on screen, including terminals, code editors, Jupyter notebooks, .env files and browser developer tools. It flags API keys, tokens, passwords and secret strings that match common patterns — whether they appear in a command line, a config file or an IDE window. If a secret was visible on screen during recording, ScreenSafe will find it.
What types of sensitive data does ScreenSafe detect?
ScreenSafe detects six categories of sensitive data: financial identifiers (IBANs, credit and debit card numbers, bank account numbers), personal contact data (email addresses, phone numbers), authentication credentials (passwords, API keys, secret tokens, OAuth tokens), identity documents (passport numbers, national ID numbers, social security numbers), network and infrastructure secrets (IP addresses, SSH keys, database connection strings), and miscellaneous PII (dates of birth, home addresses). Detection works on any text visible on screen — typed, pasted, or shown in a document, terminal or UI.
How accurate is the detection? Will ScreenSafe flag false positives?
ScreenSafe favours recall over precision — it would rather flag a false positive than miss a real piece of sensitive data. In practice, patterns like IBANs, bank card numbers and API keys are highly specific and rarely appear by coincidence, so false positives are uncommon for those types. Phone numbers and email addresses are more ambiguous, so you may occasionally see a false positive there. Every finding goes through your review: you decide what to blur and what to dismiss. Nothing is changed without your approval, so a false positive costs only a click to clear.
Does ScreenSafe work with webinar recordings and Zoom calls?
Yes. Any recording you can export as an MP4, MOV or WebM file works with ScreenSafe — Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, StreamYard or any other platform that lets you download the recording. Export the session, upload it to ScreenSafe, and review the findings before you share the replay with attendees or post it publicly. ScreenSafe will flag any IBAN, card number, email, phone number, password or API key that was visible on screen during the call.
How long does the analysis take?
Analysis speed depends on the length of the video and the frame rate selected. As a guide, a 10-minute video typically completes in under 2 minutes. ScreenSafe processes one frame per second by default and reads every line of text visible on screen — terminal output, browser windows, forms, documents — in parallel. You receive an email notification when the report is ready, so you can close the tab and come back later.
What happens if I exceed my monthly quota?
If you reach your monthly minute limit, ScreenSafe will not start new analyses until your quota resets at the beginning of the next billing period. No extra charge is applied automatically. You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time from your billing settings — the change takes effect immediately, and the unused portion of your current period is credited.
Can I export or download the analysis report?
Yes. Once the analysis is complete, you can download a JSON report that lists every finding — IBAN, card number, email, phone number, password or API key — with its timestamp, screen coordinates, severity and your review decision. The JSON report serves as documented proof that you checked the video before publishing, which is useful for GDPR accountability. A redacted export of the video (with accepted findings blurred or pixelated) is also available as an MP4 download.
Does ScreenSafe work with screen recordings made with OBS, Camtasia or Loom?
Yes. ScreenSafe processes any MP4, MOV or WebM file regardless of what software you used to record it — OBS Studio, Camtasia, Loom, QuickTime, Screenflow, ShareX and similar tools all export to one of these formats. Upload the recording and ScreenSafe scans every frame for IBANs, card numbers, emails, phone numbers, passwords and API keys that appeared on screen. This is especially useful before posting a coding tutorial, a software demo or an online course to YouTube or a learning platform.
Can I check videos before posting them on TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts?
Yes. ScreenSafe works on any MP4, MOV or WebM file regardless of where you plan to post it — TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn video or a podcast clip. Short-form creators are especially exposed: editing is fast, a quick cut can leave a card number, an email or a phone number visible for just a second, and the video can be live in minutes. Upload the clip to ScreenSafe first, review the findings, and post with confidence.
Is ScreenSafe suitable for financial advisors, accountants and lawyers recording client meetings?
Yes. Regulated professionals such as financial advisors, accountants, tax consultants and lawyers regularly record screen-share sessions with clients that include IBANs, account numbers, personal documents and other confidential data. Before sharing or archiving a recording, ScreenSafe scans the video, flags every sensitive item, and lets you blur them in a single step. The JSON report serves as documented evidence that you reviewed the recording for sensitive information before distribution — supporting your GDPR accountability obligations and professional duty of confidentiality.
What is the maximum file size and video duration ScreenSafe accepts?
ScreenSafe accepts MP4, MOV and WebM files up to 3 GB per upload. On the free plan each video can be up to 10 minutes long and your monthly quota is also 10 minutes. The Creator plan and lifetime access remove the per-video duration cap and give you a higher monthly quota so you can process full-length courses, webinars and long-form screen recordings without splitting them first.
Can I choose which detections to blur instead of blurring everything?
Yes. Every detection appears in the review with its timestamp and a masked preview. Mark the ones to blur and dismiss the false positives, then export: the clean copy blurs only what you marked, and the original file is never modified.
